COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Cape May County Office of Emergency Management, Cape May County Management Information Services, and New Jersey Office of Homeland Security are hosting a free Cyber Security Workshop Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The workshop will be held at Avalon Community Hall at 3001 Avalon Avenue, Avalon. The workshop also includes participation by New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
“Cybersecurity threats are not an occasional problem, they are a persistent, everyday problem for both the public and private sectors of our region”, stated Cape May County Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. “We invite all segments of our community to attend this free workshop to help better understand the threats that are real, and the preventive actions that we can take”.
Presenters at the workshop include New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC) Unit, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office/Cyber Unit, and Cape May County Management Information Services. Presenters will discuss the role of the NJCCIC and provide an overview of the best practices designed to mitigate and manage risk with a focus on ransom ware, one of the most prevalent and destructive cyber threats. Attendees will be able to engage in a question and answer session during the workshop.
“This workshop is targeted toward municipal governments, small and large business, or any business or organization that believes it could be the target of a cyber-attack,” stated Cape May County Emergency Management Director Martin Pagliughi. “Time and time again cyber-attacks have proven to be costly, disruptive, and can bring a business or organization to a standstill. This workshop will provide valuable information on how to reduce the risk of a cyber-attack.”
