COURT HOUSE – May 15: After four days of slow growth in confirmed cases of COVID-19, Cape May County announced 20 new cases today. There were no new fatalities. An additional 29 individuals were removed from quarantine.
The new cases brought the total for the county to a new threshold, at 508. Fatalities remained 39. The number of active cases decreased, from 250 yesterday to 241 today. This was accomplished by the growth in off quarantine cases.
The number of active cases not associated with long-term care facilities is 105, the lowest it has been since May 9. Long-term care facilities in today’s report account for 56% of the county’s active cases.
Today’s new cases are 11 in Lower Township, one in Woodbine, two in North Wildwood, and one each in West Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. Twelve of the 20 new cases were in long-term care facilities.
Earlier today, Gov. Phil Murphy said he would lift the restrictions on elective surgeries and certain invasive procedures which he put in place March 23.
The state reported 201 new deaths, bringing the total fatalities in the battle with the virus over 10,000, at 10,138. Total cases statewide climbed by 1,297 to 143,905.
