CAPE MAY — Cape May County Regional Urban Search and Rescue Team (R.U.S.T.) will conduct a training and response drill at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May on Sat., Nov. 5, 2016.
R.U.S.T. members will be simulating a building collapse. The members have trained all year culminating in the final drill that will take place on Sat. The drill will take place on Perchard Ave. located at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center at 1 Munro Ave. in Cape May. The drill begins at 10 a.m. and will continue for several hours.
Cape May County R.U.S.T. performs bimonthly training exercises in order to practice for such incidents as building collapse, open water and confined rescue situations among others. As a result of the training, policies and procedures have been established for notification and dispatch of the R.U.S.T. team via Cape May County Office of Emergency Management.
Cape May County Regional Urban Search and Rescue Team (R.U.S.T.) is comprised of firefighters from multiple departments throughout Cape May County. Approximately 25 members formed the volunteer group in 2010 for training and response purposes.
