COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton announced that the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has a new website designed to disseminate information during storm events and other county-wide emergencies. The url for the new website is WWW.CAPEMAYCOUNTYEMERGENCY.NET. The emergency information site can also be accessed from the homepage of the county’s main website capemaycountygov.net. Additionally, links have been placed on other websites including the Department of Tourism to ensure that anyone in need of emergency information will have easy access to it.
Director Thornton said, “More than ever, it is critical for the county to have a website where residents and visitors can receive the most up to the minute information regarding weather events and other emergencies. This new website provides instant updates to critical emergency issues that impact our county.”
“The county’s new emergency management website is being managed 24 hours a day and provides essential weather information, storm advisories, watches and warnings plus it will have evacuation notices and procedures when warranted,” added Cape May County Emergency Management Coordinator Martin Pagliughi.
The emergency site provides dozens of links where the public can easily find weather and storm-related information during an emergency including Atlantic City Electric’s outage map where customers can view and report electric outages.
Additionally, the site includes contacts for municipal offices of emergency management, trusted weather websites and media links, New Jersey road and traffic information and local tides information. “The two recent hurricanes that have impacted the Jersey Shore really highlighted the need for a site dedicated to storm-related information and other emergencies that may impact our area,” said Pagliughi.
Another important component of capemaycountyemergency.net is education. The site includes useful links on how to prepare for an emergency/evacuation, caring for pets and the disabled, how to prepare an evacuation kit, how to prepare your documents and the different types of emergencies that may impact Cape May County plus videos that provide instruction on these topics and more. “With September recognized as National Preparedness Month, now is the ideal time to visit the website and take the necessary steps to make sure you are prepared for an emergency, concluded Director Thornton.
Residents and visitors are urged to add capemaycountyemergency.net to your “favorites” menu on your computer, tablet and cell phone. So visit capemaycountyemergency.net to be prepared and to stay informed.
