COURT HOUSE – April 29: Despite nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19, the number of total active cases increased by only one because county health officials were also able to remove seven individuals from quarantine.
There was one additional fatality reported, an 89-year-old female resident of the Autumn Lake long-term care facility, in Oceanview.
The county has 186 active cases, 116 individuals off quarantine, and 21 fatalities.
One-third of the county’s remaining active cases are residents of long-term care facilities, several of whom have progressed enough to be removed from quarantine. Middle Township, with 32, and Upper Township, with 28, now lead all county municipalities in terms of the number of active cases outside of long-term care facilities.
Earlier today, Gov. Phil Murphy announced the first easing of the state’s near lockdown restrictions, allowing state and county parks and golf courses to reopen, as of dawn May 2. The governor also announced 329 new fatalities in the last 24 hours. Given the 402 fatalities reported Monday, the state has seen over 10% of its total 6,770 COVID-19 related deaths in the last two days.
Murphy pointed to data that showed encouraging results, as the curve of new cases state-wide is leveling off, and hospitalizations have continued to decline from their peak at mid-month.
