CAPE MAY — New Jersey-based Coast Guard units had a busy Fourth of July, including several medevac cases and the rescue of eight boaters whose boat ran aground in Maryland.
A rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Cape May, transported a 20-year-old Navy sailor after he sustained a head injury while aboard a 44-foot Navy training sailboat. The sailor was transported here, and was treated and released by awaiting medical personnel at the pier.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May medevaced a 13-year-old male and a 19-year-old female after the boat they were on ran aground in Hereford Inlet, Wednesday afternoon. Both suffered minor injuries and were transported to awaiting medical personnel at Grassy Sound Marina in North Wildwood.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City located a 23-year-old male today who was reportedly disoriented in Absecon Bay, and who was reported overdue by his father Wednesday evening.
The aircrew located the man at about 6:45 a.m. today and directed the father, who was also searching by boat, to his son’s position in the bay. The father transferred his son to a local hospital for treatment.
Boat crews from the N.J. State Police assisted in the search.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City hoisted a 20-year-old female July 3 who was having difficulty breathing from a Navy training sailboat about 48 miles east of here. The patient was transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center here for treatment.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City hoisted eight boaters July 4, including a pregnant woman and a 10-month-old child, after the boat they were on ran aground near Spesutie Island, Md.
All eight boaters were taken to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md., to awaiting medical personnel.
