WILDWOOD CREST – The June 22 Board of Commissioners meeting in Wildwood Crest featured passage of an ordinance that publishes and approves only the titles of the borough Code of Ordinances.
A public hearing had been scheduled for this ordinance that covers topics ranging from alarm systems to zoning use. With no questions from the dozen or so attendees, the ordinance passed unanimously at the second reading.
Another ordinance that amends salaries for borough employees will have its’ public hearing at the 9:30 a.m. meeting July 13.
Commissioner Don Cabrera spoke briefly about the desire to improve the Rio Grande Avenue entryway into the Wildwoods. He described it as “an island project” that will enhance the tourist experience as he/she enters the island resort area.
“The whole entry way into the island needs to be cleaned up,” he stated and referenced the need for other governments such as Lower Township, Cape May County, and the state as having a stake in the project.
Mayor Carl Groon thanked borough employees for their outstanding performance during the previous evening’s storm; he also thanked Atlantic City Electric for its quick work in restoring power to the hotels by 10 p.m. June 21.
Old business included generators for the school, Sunset Lake mitigation, and the Army Corps of Engineers dune plan; Groon stated there was nothing new to report on all those items.
