CREST HAVEN – Among items approved for purchase by freeholders Nov. 8 was a 3D laser scanner for the County Prosecutor’s Office.
The cost was $55,891 for a FARO 570 3D laser scanner unit which includes the device, training and maintenance with two one-year options as well as support and software upgrades for the device.
FARO, a Lake Mary, Fla.-based firm has manufacturing facilities in Exton, Pa.
What the unit can do in the realm of law enforcement, forensic work and fire investigation is reduce on-scene recording time as well as recreate crime and fire scenes with accuracy to one millimeter while capturing millions of bits of information including global positioning system points.
According to a company website, the device can also recreate a bullet’s path, measure skid marks, and store the information in a print cloud for future use.
Newly appointed Acting Purchasing Agent Allison Hansen said there had been three bids for the device.
The next item Hansen addressed was a one-year $3,638 service and maintenance contract for the Kidde Fire Trainer T1000 used in the Department of Fire Marshal.
She added that the county had invested $650,000 in the unit, thus the service contract would keep it running properly.
In other action the board:
* Approved $22,533 contract with Rudco Products Inc. of Vineland for a beige trash compactor for the new Correctional Center.
* Authorized a $16,296 change order (No. 10) for additional costs for fire suppression system and security combination fixture at the new Correctional Center.
* Approved a $188,475 contract to Kisby-Lees Mechanical LLC, (Kisby Shore Corp) for replacement of the existing air-cooled chiller at the Cape May County Superior Courthouse.
* Approved a memorandum of understanding between the county and American Red Cross for support during disasters and emergencies.
* Passed a resolution to honor the New Jersey State Department of the American Legion on its 100th anniversary and thanking them for support to state’s veterans.
* Approved a shared services agreement with the Cumberland County Improvement Authority for management of the project that will convert the former Kmart at 1127 Route 47 in Rio Grande into offices for the Social Services Department and a VA Veterans Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.
