Beach Replenishment Info Session Slated in Stone Harbor

By Leslie Truluck

STONE HARBOR — There will be a public information session during council’s regular meeting Aug. 18 regarding the upcoming beach replenishment project from 98th Street to 111th Street to replace sand that has been lost in storms.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Great Lakes Dredging Company will be available to explain the details of the project and answer questions.
The state will pay 75 percent and the borough will pay 25 percent of the cost.
The overall cost of the project is $2,547,750 with the borough paying $636,937.
The contractor is currently in Sea Isle City and estimates the Stone Harbor project might begin in the last week in August.
Variables such as weather or equipment malfunctions could change this estimate.
The beaches will be closed for safety during the replenishment.
