Baby Parade, Fireworks Among Scratched SIC Events

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – Mayor Leonard Desiderio announced June 23 that “most regrettably, we are canceling our July 4 fireworks, summer concerts, and baby parade. We’re still going ahead with our movie showings at the beach because they tend to draw smaller crowds.
“I know how disappointing these cancellations are to our residents and visitors alike, but there is no way we can practice social distancing with the influx of people who come to attend them. Our first duty is to protect the public’s safety and that is what we must do this summer.”
Desiderio informed Sea Isle City Council that morning he talked to the governor’s office about the opening of pubs and bars, in addition to restaurants scheduled for indoor service July 2.
“I learned that bars and pubs will not be included in the inside easing of restrictions that pertain to restaurants and that once that does open, the numbers of people at the bar will count towards the total capacity of 25% if that bar or pub has table seating,” explained Desiderio.
