Avalon on Board with Records Program

By Megan Gillin-Schwartz

AVALON — Borough Council here enacted a resolution Nov. 28 authorizing “support and commitment” to participate in the state Public Archives and Records Infrastructure Support (PARIS) grant program with the county acting as lead agency and applicant.
The state launched the PARIS grant program in 2005, granting over $25 million throughout the 21 counties and 12 largest municipalities to meet records management and storage needs of county and municipal governments.
Currently, the county is in the process of assessing records storage for each of the municipalities.
Part of the state Division of Archives and Records Management, which operates the State Archives and the State Records Storage Center, the grants also provide efficiency of cost and operation, offering possibility for shared services.
The enacted resolution states that the “borough desires to collaborate with the county in the performance of the PARIS grant program and the borough is acknowledging their eligible funding will be leveraged with the county.”
