CAPE MAY – Mayor Clarence Lear has announced a town-hall meeting at Convention Hall Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. The subject will be an understanding of the state Municipal Land Use law and how it relates to city planning.
“We now have the opportunity to do redevelopment correctly. We can take that opportunity to understand redevelopment, what it is, where it might apply, how it can be used, who might be involved and so on,” Lear wrote in a general distribution letter.
Lear underscored the “need to understand how to make city planning work for us and our community.”
Further, the mayor cited the hiring of James Maley, a redevelopment attorney, a consultant who is also the mayor of Collingswood. Maley will be present Aug. 13 to “lead us in our redevelopment discussion,” Lear wrote.
He also noted that the meeting “is not about a specific plan or design or developer. It is about the meaning and scope of the redevelopment law and its application.”
The session is about “options available to reclaim and revitalize an area of Cape May in our city’s best interests…” Lear continued.
