COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee introduced an ordinance Feb. 21 to increase the number of plenary retail consumption liquor licenses from five to six based on population.
Some license holders have urged the township not to issue a new license, saying that the seasonal nature of the population would not support six licenses, hurting the value of their businesses.
Some in the public urged the committee to move ahead citing the $500,000 or more that the license sale would bring.
This ordinance only raises the number of licenses permitted, and does not guarantee that the governing body would issue a new license. The public hearing is scheduled for March 19.
