WILDWOOD – The Wildwood City Fire Department reminds the public about several safety practices during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a release, first, and foremost, stay home. Remember they are not stuck at home; they are safe at home.
Only go out for essential errands such as to get groceries or medications. Also, continue to practice social distancing and maintain at least six feet distance from others.
Continue good hand hygiene and avoid touching the face. If sick and have mild symptoms, stay home and contact a healthcare provider.
Those experiencing a medical emergency, call 9-1-1. Please remember to let the dispatcher know all symptoms.
Those with questions regarding COVID-19 can call 2-1-1 the NJ Hotline or by visiting www.covid19.nj.gov.
By practicing all of the guidelines issued by local, state, and federal officials we can all work together to flatten the curve and stop the spread of this horrible virus.
We stand in solidarity to thank all doctors and nurses working so hard during this crisis.
In addition, we would like to remind everyone of home cooking safety. With everyone being safely at home this means that many more people are cooking on a regular basis.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) cooking fires are the number one cause of home fire and home fire injuries. The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking.
Remember, when cooking to always stay in the kitchen and pay close attention the surroundings.
Most cooking fires in the home involve the kitchen stove. Remember to keep anything that can catch fire, such as oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels, or curtains away from the stovetop.
If a small cooking fire on the stovetop occurs, cover the pan with a lid and turn off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it is completely cooled.
For an oven fire, turn off the oven and keep the door closed. When in doubt, get out of the house and call 9-1-1.
When leaving, close the door to help contain the fire. The members of the Wildwood City Fire Department are on-duty 24x7x365.
