Volunteer Fire Company Looking for Volunteers

By Erin Haskell

WILDWOOD – Once a fire company with a thriving volunteer base of about 35 volunteer firefighters, the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company Number One hopes to grow its current ten-member team during 2014.
In a press release, issued by the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company, the fire company has retained Communication Solutions Group of Jenkintown, PA to help in their recruitment of volunteer members, through a comprehensive marketing plan and an increased website presence.
“We have some new things coming out, new ideas to help keep people around,” said Fire Company No. 1 President Greg Neill.
In order to become a volunteer firefighter, hopefuls must fill out an application and pass a Firefighter One course in New Jersey, which is held in Court House. Members must have a valid N.J. driver’s license to drive equipment. The fire company pays for the education and provides transportation to the class, which is held at night to accommodate those who work during the day.
Volunteer firefighters can expect to perform important duties within the community, including helping citizens evacuate during storms, assisting with motor vehicle crashes, participating in town events, etc.
“People who join will get the satisfaction of helping others and being a friend to those who need help,” said Neill. “There are endless ways to help.”
Not only is the fire company hoping to recruit volunteer firefighters, but non-firefighter positions as well. According to Neill, the fire company hopes to attain volunteers for fire police positions, volunteers to stay on location of a fire and keep the public away from the scene, fundraising volunteers, clerical work volunteers, and more.
