WILDWOOD CREST– Firefighters were on the scene of a multi-alarm structure fire here at 5809 Pacific Ave at East Crocus Road just after 12 p.m.
Fire companies responded from the Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Department and City of Wildwood.
Wildwood Crest police officers reported heavy smoke billowing from the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported by the Wildwood Crest Rescue Squad.
The structure sustained heavy smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is unknown although it appears to have originated on the first floor of the building.
Power company crews were working nearby repairing lines downed in Wednesday’s blizzard. The condo unit, in a building of four units, was unoccupied at the time of the fire. A resident told the Herald all four units were inhabited year round.
The county Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene investigating the cause of the fire. Most firefighter left the scene by 2:15 p.m.
According to police, the fire does not appear suspicious in nature. Police officers from Wildwood also assisted at the scene.
