Structure Fire Reported at Historic Cape May Property

CAPE MAY– An unattended clothes dryer caught fire about 4:15 p.m. June 2 at 819 Beach Avenue, the Baronet, a famous old Cape May home converted to condos.
Fire Chief Jerry Inderwies Jr. said the the dryer was in flames when crews arrived. It produced smoke that was carried to the third floor. He said he believed smoke damage was minimal to the living units.
Inderwies warned to never leave a clothes dryer unattended. Cape May has had a number of fires from burning towels in dryers.
The dryer was taken to the front lawn. Erma and Villas fire companies assisted Cape May.
