Shop and Stop AC Unit Catches Fire

RIO GRANDE- At approximately 5 a.m. Mon., April 16, Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company, returning from a brush fire near K-Mart, heard a hissing sound coming from the roof of the former Stop and Shop store near the Route 9 and 47 intersection.
After investigating the noise, they saw smoke and flames coming from an air conditioning unit which was spreading to the roof. Rio Grande Fire Company laddered the building and quickly extinguished the fire. The other crews went to the interior of the building to check for extension but none was found.
Green Creek and Erma volunteer fire companies also responded to the fire .
Rio Grande Rescue, Middle Township Rescue and Middle Township police were on scene. The county Fire Marshal`s office with Middle Township police are investigating the fire.
