Couple Jumps from Second Floor, Escapes Flames that Engulf Home

By Erin Haskell

TOWN BANK – Town Bank Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire on the 3400 block Shore Drive around midnight May 3.
Upon arrival, heavy flames were showing on the front of the building, extending from the ground, through the third floor to the roof, according to Lew Megonigal, chief of Town Bank Volunteer Fire Company.
Two adults were home at the time of the fire. They were met with heavy fire at the door, so both jumped from the second floor deck to escape the house, added Megonigal.
One minor injury was reported, a laceration to the foot, which did not require transport to the hospital.
Fire companies from Erma and Villas also responded to the scene, along with a Lower Township fire official and the Cape May County Fire Marshal.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
