WOODBINE – The Borough of Woodbine will receive a 2017 recycling rebate in the amount of $3,597.52 from the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA).
According to a release, in 2017, the Borough of Woodbine’s recyclable material diversion rate was $19.44 percent, while the county-wide recyclable materials rate was 23.93 percent. The recycling of 360.28 tons of material allowed Woodbine to avoid the payment of $26,091.48 in solid waste tipping fees for that material.
The CMCMUA acknowledged the borough for its recycling efforts. Recycling at a full recommended 50 percent rate could divert an additional 566.15 tons from being deposited in the landfill representing another $41,000.95 in tipping fee savings to the municipality.
In the most recent cycle, Woodbine received $5,107.72 from the State of New Jersey for its recycling grant through the state’s Recycling Enhancement Act.
“Given the data we have received from the county, even though it is good news, it still emphasizes the need for continuing our efforts to increase the percentage of material that are recycled in our community to further our benefits from doing so,” stated Mayor William Pikolycky. “For more information, visit www.cmcmua.com or call 465-9026.”
