VIDEO: Santa’s Growing Trees?

By Susan Avedissian

PETERSBURG – At the Eisele Tree Farm here, up to 10,000 trees are grown year ’round in anticipation of the Christmas season. In the next weeks they will take center stage as youngsters and families come to the farm on a cold wintry day, point to one and say “This One!”
At the Tree Farm, like any Christmas Tree Farm, choosing a tree to grace the living room and hold the treasured family Christmas ornaments is a special experience, as customers know the trees are locally grown, fresh, and healthy.
Bil Eisele has been growing trees on his property for over 25 years, and for those who would like to have the sweet smell of pine waft through the house this Christmas, choosing and cutting or digging and then replanting your own tree is a popular choice. Many families have been coming back for generations, he said.
The benefits are clear, said Eisele.
“Choosing a live tree from a farm means the tree will be fresh. A retail outlet sells trees that were often cut in late September or early October.”
Eisele is a member of the New Jersey Christmas Tree Grower’s Association, the only member farm in the county. There are other smaller tree farms in the county, Eisele said, and they all offer the same benefits: live trees which can be replanted at home, a fresh tree that will hold its needles and the support of local farms which help the environment.
