Fertilizer Flight to Go Over Avalon’s Dunes

By Leslie Truluck

AVALON — Don’t be alarmed by an airplane buzzing down the beachfront here.
Avalon announced that an airplane will drop non-toxic, pellet-form fertilizer on dune grass between Eighth and 80th streets here sometime between Oct. 20-23.
Weather conditions will determine which day of the week fertilization will take place.
On one of those days, the airplane will appear at about 9:30 a.m. and will make five flyovers of the dunes at 20-30 minute intervals for about two and a half hours.
The release states dune grass fertilization is recommended by the USDA, aerial fertilization has been approved by the FAA office in Millville and will be given final authorization by the FAA Flight Standards office in Philadelphia the morning of the flight.
