Dead Whale Found on High’s Beach

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

GREEN CREEK — The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is investigating the death of a whale found on High’s Beach Friday morning.
The whale has been identified as a True’s Beaked Whale.
Rana Schaefer a Stranding Center official at the scene said she believed the whale was hit and killed by a vessel. The Whale has extensive trauma however, Bob Schoelkopf, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, said the marks on the whale are “clearly tiger shark bites”.
The whale is being transported to The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania where an autopsy will take place this afternoon to determine the cause of death, Schoelkopf said.
