Dead Manatee Discovered on Beach in Middle

By Other News Source

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – A dead 11-foot-long male manatee, estimated to weigh 900 pounds, was discovered along the Delaware Bay, in Middle Township, Feb. 9, according to published reports.
Officials are investigating a possible cause for the manatee’s death, and believe climate change could be a contributing factor. Staff from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, in Brigantine, suspect the animal has been dead for at least one month, and are unsure why it was in the Delaware Bay.
Manatees are commonly found in Florida’s coastal waters; however, experts said they’ve seen an increase in Manatees migrating to New Jersey and other northern areas.
