MIAMI, FLA. — At 5 a.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Cristobal was 485 northeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C. heading into the North Atlantic.
The storm was well offshore from New Jersey, but was still creating strong rip currents. On July 21, Cape May closed its beaches in the afternoon due to rough surf that caused six injuries.
Maximum sustained winds are 60 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center, and the storm is moving at 21 mph.
Shipping concerns will keep an eye on the storm, as it is expected to increase forward speed in the next day or two.
Tropical storm force winds extend out 105 miles from the center of the storm.
