The Avalon Free Public Library announced the collaboration between the library and the Avalon Historical Society.
Effective Oct. 1, the former museum became the Avalon Free Public Library History Center.
This will allow the Avalon Historical Society, as a non-profit organization, to concentrate on fund-raising, collection development, preservation, and conversation and programming.
“This exciting new venture for the Library will further expand our mission of cultural enrichment for our community” states library trustee, Carole Hensel.
Norman Gluckman, Library Director, announced the appointment of Joseph Angemi of Williamstown, as the Director of the History Center.
Angemi, whose background includes employment with the Independence National Park Service, brings extensive site administration, interpretation, programming and conservation experience to the History Center.
“I am excited to join the AFPL History Center at this, its crossroads,” said Angemi. “After years of work as a professional interpreter, museum specialist, and conservator, I’m happy to be able to add my skills to the advancement of the Center. The new approach will allow the community to experience Avalon history in an exciting new way.”
“This is a win-win situation,” Gluckman said. “The Library will gain some additional space, the Historical Society can now focus on their mission, and all state and local historical materials can be consolidated into one logical location. This collaboration will enable the History Center to better tell Avalon’s story.”
The Avalon Free Public Library is located at 235 32nd St. and provides free and open access to first class collections, services and programs that inspire, inform and enrich the community.
