The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent until proven otherwise in court.
WILDWOOD – On April 11, the Wildwood Police Department took a report of a theft concerning a large quantity of currency stolen from a residence in Wildwood.
During the ensuing investigation conducted by the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division, John Dyes, 44, of Rio Grande, was named as a suspect in the theft.
On April 12, the Wildwood Police Department Uniform Patrol Division conducted a motor vehicle stop on a Ford Explorer for an observed traffic violation. During the course of the stop, suspected heroin, methamphetamine, and amphetamine-dextroamphetamine were recovered from the vehicle and the occupants were placed under arrest.
At this time, John Dyes was identified as a passenger in the vehicle. The other occupants of the vehicle were identified as David Tharp, 52, of Millsboro, Del.; Ashley Buchanan, 23, of Millsboro, Del.; and Calvin Turner, 30, of Gainsville, Fla.
At Wildwood Police Department Headquarters, detectives continued the investigation into the theft and ultimately recovered several thousand dollars of currency from locations in Wildwood and West Wildwood suspected of belonging to the victim of the theft.
As a result of the theft investigation and motor vehicle stop, Dyes, Tharp, Buchanan, and Turner were each charged with possession of CDS / heroin, possession of CDS / heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of CDS / heroin with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park (2nd degree), possession of CDS / methamphetamine, possession of CDS / amphetamine-dextroamphetamine, possession of CDS / marijuana, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
Charges for Tharp and Buchanan were placed on a summons complaint and both were released in compliance with the Attorney General Guideline pertaining to Criminal Justice Bail Reform.
In addition to the aforementioned charges, Dyes was charged with theft and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in compliance with the Bail Reform directive.
Turner was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and certain person not to possess a weapon.
During the investigation, Turner was found to be a wanted person out of the State of Florida. He was also charged with being a fugitive from justice and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
