WILDWOOD CREST – The Crest Memorial School was placed in a lockdown this morning due to a suspicous person in the area.
A release from the Wildwood Crest Police Department said that the lockdown was initiated because a witness identified a man potentially wearing a bulletproof vest near the school.
The man was contacted by Crest detectives, who learned that the man was wearing a weighted running vest as part of his training for an upcoming marathon.
No direct threats were made towards the school. Crest Memorial initiated lockdown out of an “abundance of caution,” the police release said.
The incident was investigated and it was determined that there is no threat to the public.
