Theft and Burglary Outside Tavern

By Jack Fichter

NORTH CAPE MAY — Lower Township police responded to a call Aug. 8 at 11 p.m. from CJ’s Bar and Grille, 3729 Bayshore Road, of a man going through a female employee’s vehicle in the front parking lot.
Police arrested Jan Michael Erdman, 20, of Villas for burglary and theft from a motor vehicle.
According to police, when confronted, Erdman attempted to flee the area but was chased and tackled by a bouncer from the restaurant who held the man down until officers arrived. He was highly intoxicated, disorderly and belligerent toward the officers, said a police report.
While being processed, Erdman deliberately attempted to damage police equipment and property. He is lodged in the county jail under $10,000 bail, charged with two counts of theft of movable property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages by a minor and criminal mischief of the fourth degree.
Arresting officers were Patrolmen Dallas Bohn and William Barcas.
