CAPE MAY POINT — A homeowner walked into her house to find a man hiding, crouched down in her closet, according to Cape May police. Terrified, the homeowner ran and called police.

Cape May Police Department announced the Dec. 2 arrest of Kevin T. Traughber, who was charged with burglary, hindering apprehension, and theft in connection with the incident.

Police said Traughber, 31, entered the residence through an unlocked basement window and was hiding in a bedroom closet on the first floor. After he was found hiding by the resident, they both fled, police said. However, Traughber was located a short time later by patrol units around the scene.

Police said he was wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he was arrested a few weeks before for a similar incident. Police said they took Traughber to Cape May County jail after booking.

Cape May Police Chief Dekon Fashaw urges anyone with additional information to contact the Cape May Police Department Detective Division at 609-884-9500, or report anonymously through the Cape May County Sheriff’s Tip Line at cmcsheriff.net and click on anonymous tip, or through the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-889-3597

The above-named individual is presumed innocent until/unless proven guilty.
