By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY POLICE RELEASE:
OCEAN CITY — On July 4, 2009 at 7:14pm the Ocean City Police received a report of a burglary in progress on Bayshore Drive. A neighbor reported seeing a subject on the second floor porch of the residence in question.
The neighbor did not believe the subject belonged at the location. Upon police arrival at the scene the police were met by the homeowner. The owner said that her dogs were barking in the stairwell leading to the second floor leading her to believe that someone was still in the building. As the Officer checked the second floor he found evidence that someone had recently been inside. The Officer then began an interior and exterior search of the property.
The Suspect, Michael Baxter, 25, of Havertown, Pa, was found hiding on the roof of the property. Baxter was taken into custody by the Officer.
Further investigation revealed that Baxter was wanted for stealing a motor vehicle out of Pennsylvania and was a NCIC hit. The stolen vehicle was located parked on Bayshore Drive. Baxter was also wanted in four other New Jersey municipalities for active warrants. A warrant was authorized by Judge Richard Russell in the amount of $15,000.00 full cash bail for the Ocean City charges of burglary of a residence. The investigation was conducted by Ptl. Joseph Martella.
