Police Charge Ocean City Woman with Writing Bad Checks

OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City Police Department received several reports of an individual passing bad checks at local businesses along Asbury Avenue. Currently there have been eight reports filed valued at over $1,000.
The suspect, later identified as Paula Rose Mantone, 32, of Ocean City, was providing the businesses with a fictitious address and phone number in the city. Most of the checks written were valued at under $200.
The checks were issued on a bank in Florida named Regions Bank. All checks issued were in the name of the Suspect, Paula Mantone, between October and December 15, 2009.
The investigation led to Mantone’s residence in the 1000 block of Bay Avenue. An arrest warrant was issued by Judge Richard Russell in the amount of $15,000 full cash bail.
Officers located Mantone at her residence and took her into custody. She was charged with theft by deception.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the patrol division and detective bureau.
