WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest Police were alerted via 911, of a burglary of a room at a motel on the 7200 block Ocean Avenue May 29 at 11:20 p.m.
Christopher Hayworth, 22, of Philadelphia Pa., reported to police that two men forced their way into his motel room after brandishing a handgun. Hayworth told police that he needed to jump from his motel room window to safety before alerting police. Hayworth told police he was unsure if his girlfriend was being held in the room as well.
Wildwood Crest Police and Wildwood City Police responded to the motel and evacuated the area near the room. After a short time, police made entry to the room and discovered no one inside. Wildwood Crest Police detectives interviewed Hayworth and found discrepancies to his initial report. The investigation revealed that no evidence was found to support Hayworth’s initial report to police. It was determined that Hayworth’s report was false. He was subsequently charged with false public alarm.
Hayworth was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center with bail set at $2,500. No one was injured during the reported incident and no suspects were ever positively developed.
