The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person named is innocent until proven otherwise in court.
WILDWOOD – A Philadelphian was charged with burglary and theft in connection with the July 30 5 a.m. break-in of Crest Savings Bank, 3301 Pacific Ave.
According to a Wildwood police release, members of its Uniformed Patrol Division were dispatched to the bank where an audible alarm was sounding.
The bank’s interior was checked, and police found that an undetermined amount of money had been taken during the incident.
Through a subsequent investigation by Wildwood Police Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, information was developed about a person of interest. That information was distributed to local law enforcement agencies.
At about 8 a.m. near the Wildwood Transportation Center, 4300 Washington Ave., police stopped and detained Cecil Morris, 43.
Police stated that Morris had in his possession “property identified as being proceeds of the burglary and theft from Crest Savings Bank.” He was also in possession of “burglar tools.”
Morris was charged with burglary, theft, and possession of burglar tools.
He was incarcerated at Cape May County Correctional Center awaiting a detention hearing in accordance with the bail reform directive.
