Officer Assaulted During Home Invasion Investigation

NORTH CAPE MAY – On November 8 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Corporal Ernest Macomber was assaulted while conducting a neighborhood canvass in the area of Holmes Avenue in North Cape in relation to an early reported home invasion.
During the course of the canvass, a report was received of loud and disorderly subject in the area.
The police located a white male subject who was later identified as Paul J. Reese, a 44 year-old white male from the Villas section of the Township.
During the course of the field interview, Mr. Reese was discovered to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.
As Mr. Reese was being taken into custody, a struggle ensued in which Mr. Reese head-butted Corporal Macomber.
Corporal Macamber was not seriously injured in the incident.
Mr. Reese was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Bail was set at $25,000 cash. Mr. Reese was treated and released at Cape Regional Medical Center for injuries he sustained during the struggle.
He was lodged in the Cape May County Jail in default of bail.
