OCEAN CITY — On Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8:26 a.m., Ocean City Police Department responded to a reported theft of a motor vehicle in the 1700 block of Haven Avenue.
Patrolman Bob Koob and Patrolman Anthony Fearnhead conducted the initial investigation at the scene.
During this investigation, it was learned that Kristine M. Cheney, a relative of the victim, and her boyfriend, Joseph Bodnar, were involved in the alleged theft of the motor vehicle. Both parties were guests in the home of the victim the previous night.
The investigation revealed that Bodnar had driven the stolen vehicle to Camden County and became involved in a one-car motor vehicle accident that disabled the vehicle. Bodnar then allegedly went to a nearby relative’s home in Camden County and broke into the relative’s home and stole a motor vehicle from that relative.
With the assistance of local police in Camden County, both of the stolen motor vehicles were recovered.
While conducting the investigation, police learned through the National Crime Information Center computer that Cheney was a fugitive from Broward County, Fla., for a similar incident involving a stolen motor vehicle.
Bodnar, 22, of Belvidere was charged with theft of automobile, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit theft, possession of controlled dangerous substance, (heroin), obstruction of justice, possession of hypodermic syringe, and contempt of court.
Municipal Court Judge Louis Belasco set his bail at $25,000.
Kristine M. Cheney, 22, of Belvidere was charged with a fugitive warrant out of Broward County, Fla. Superior Court Judge Raymond A. Batten set her bail at $200,000 full cash.
She was also charged with possession CDS (heroin), possession of hypodermic syringe, and contempt of court.
Assisting with the investigation are Detective Stephen Schaffer and Detective John Mazzuca.
