By Susan Avedissian

COURT HOUSE — Walter Krych, 54, a Middle Township police officer, pleaded not guilty June 26 to charges he sexually assaulted two minor females.
Krych was indicted in May. The indictment charges Krych with three counts of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Krych was arrested on the original charges Jan. 25. On Jan. 28, additional charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child were brought against Krych, of Court House. The new charges were announced in a Jan. 29 release by Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Joseph Evangelista.
The most recent charges were issued as a result of s second juvenile victim alleging sexual assault by Krych in the Del Haven section of the municipality on or about July 2003.
Members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Middle Township Police Department arrested Krych without incident.
The earlier charges alleged that Krych committed a sexual assault on a minor female, who was reportedly 11 years old at the time of the incidents. Those incidents were just recently reported.
According to Taylor the arrest resulted from an investigation conducted by members of the county Prosecutor’s Office, Child Abuse Unit and the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit.
The assaults are alleged to have taken place in Del Haven on or about July 2002 and in West Cape May on or about November 2002. The assaults did not take place while Krych was on duty as a police officer.
