Man Charged in Wildwood Crest Jewelry Theft

WILDWOOD CREST – The owners of a property in Wildwood Crest came to the Wildwood Crest Police Department to report a theft of jewelry from their home March 10.  
According to a release, sometime in late February to early March 2017, the owners allowed a local painting company to perform work on their vacation home in Wildwood Crest. Upon returning to the residence in Wildwood Crest, the owners discovered numerous pieces of jewelry missing from a bedroom.
Detective Jonathan Greene conducted the investigation which led to Joseph Bimbo, 39, of North Cape May, as a suspect. The investigation revealed that Bimbo, who was employed as a painter, and worked in the victim’s home, allegedly removed over $23,000 of assorted jewelry. 
Bimbo was charged with theft, third degree, and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center awaiting a court hearing.
The jewelry has not been recovered.
The Wildwood Crest Police Department urges residents to be vigilant in reporting any crime or suspicious activity they may encounter by calling 609-522-2456.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
