NORTH CAPE MAY –– Lower Township police responded to the 100 block of Orchard Avenue for reported gunshots at 11:15 p.m. on Nov. 11, but instead found an assault victim who had been allegedly attacked with a crowbar.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an unnamed subject with a head laceration.
The victim was treated and released from Cape Regional Medical Center. A suspect was identified and located in the area.
Jason Mathis, 25, of North Cape May, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault for injuring the above-mentioned subject and for swinging at another individual who was on the scene at the time of the altercation.
Mathis was taken into custody without incident and given $25,000 bail by Judge David DeWeese. Patrolmen
Pat Greene and Robert Hartman and Detective Edward Dougherty investigated the case.
