Lower Police Charge Villas Woman with DWI, Reckless Driving

By Herald Staff

NORTH CAPE MAY — On Monday, April 6 at approximately 6:50 p.m., the Lower Township Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls reporting two separate head on motor vehicle collisions on Bayshore Road.
Police investigation on scene determined that several witnesses had observed a female driver erratically operating a large Chevy F250 pick up truck, crossing completely over the roadway while proceeding northbound on Bayshore Road forcing several vehicles to swerve to the shoulder of the highway in order to avoid a collision with the pick up truck.
The pick up truck then swerved into the southbound lane nearly striking a Ford Probe head on. The Probe was occupied by Diane Dooley, 65, of the 600 Block of Townbank Road and a 35 year old male passenger.
According to police, Dooley was able to swerve her vehicle at the last moment in order to avoid a head on collision. However, the pick up truck still struck the left rear side of Dooley’s vehicle.
The driver of the pick up truck, was later identified as Robin Gaskill, 37, of the 100 Block of East Delaware Parkway, Villas. Police said Gaskill left the scene of the first accident continuing northbound on Bayshore Road, approximately .2 miles past the intersection of Rosanne and Bayshore Roads before crossing over the center line again and striking a another Ford F250 pick up truck, being operated by a Thomas Turner, 49, of the 100 Block of McKinley Avenue, Villas.
The force of the second collision caused the left front wheel of Gaskill’s vehicle to separate from the truck. Gaskill’s truck left the roadway and went over the curb on the west side of the highway, at which point witnesses stated that Gaskill attempted to accelerate her vehicle once again in an attempt to flee the scene.
Lower Township Rescue Squad responded to both accident scenes to check passengers for minor injuries, however no one was transported to the hospital as a result of the accidents.
Gaskill was arrested at the scene of the second accident and transported to Lower Township Police Department where she was charged with DWI, refusal to submit to a breath test, two counts of failing to maintain a lane, two counts of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, failure to report an accident, and unsafe tires.
