By Herald Staff

ERMA — The Lower Township Police Department will receive federal monies obtained through the Division of Highway and Traffic Safety and dispursed through the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, from the Cops in Shops, 2009 Summer Shore Initiative Grant, according to Chief Edward Donohue.
The Lower Township Police Department has participated in the Cops and Shops Program for over ten years, which places undercover police officers in area liquor store establishments to deter and/or apprehend under age minors from purchasing alcoholic beverages. The program also targets adults who purchase alcoholic beverages for minors.
The plainclothes officers will work in teams of two, during four-hour shifts. The department will receive $1,600 for the overtime details, which will run between May 22 and September 15.
