Local Pro Soccer Player Pleads Guilty in Drunk Driving Death

MAYS LANDING — According to the Press of Atlantic City, Matthew Maher, a professional soccer player who graduated from Middle Township High School, plead guilty Oct. 7 to to a reduced charge of second-degree aggravated manslaughter and driving while impaired for his role in a fatal crash on the Atlantic City Expressway that occurred in March.
The Press said Mayer, an inactive member of the Philadelphia Kixx indoor soccer team, will face five to 10 years in prison. His blood alcohol was .21 when his vehicle collided with another killing Hort Kap, 55, of Philadelphia. Mayer originally faced between 10 and 30 years before his plea bargain.
