ERMA- The Lower Township Police Department while conducting a drug interdiction operation in the North Cape May section of Lower Township Sept. 18 at approximately 1 p.m. arrested two subjects who were in the process of delivering an unknown amount of narcotics.
The suspects are identified as Carl Mathis, 52, of the 300 block of Wayne Avenue in North Cape May and Amanda Keslo, 26, of Orbutus Court in Court House. The suspects were under surveillance as they traveled down Bayshore Road to deliver the drugs to a location in the North Cape May.
As the suspects pulled into a convenience store parking lot, followed by detectives, the male suspect, Mathis, entered the store.The subject then attempted to throw three bags of heroin into a candy display as detectives approached. Mathis
was arrested and a search of his person disclosed a syringe and a unknown prescription pill.
The female suspect was stopped in the parking lot and found to possess a packet of heroin, two syringes, one unknown pill and a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine.
Mathis also was wanted for multiple arrest warrants and was taken into custody for these charges. Both subjects were arrested at the scene and taken to the Lower Township Police Department for processing.
Judge David DeWeese set bail at $25,000.00 cash for Mathis who is charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute. The second suspect was served with a summons for possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mathis was later transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
