COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 26 indictments Nov. 15. The abbreviation CDS is used for controlled dangerous substance.
Bryan Melendez
The grand jury indicted Bryan Melendez, 19, of Rio Grande, for a December 2015 sexual assault on a then 15 year old. He faces counts for second degree sexual assault and third degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Jermaine Mills
From September 2014 to September 2016, Jermaine Mills, 39, of Green Creek, allegedly tried to induce witnesses “by threat of force or other means” to alter testimony in a pending investigation and case. He was indicted for first degree witness tampering and also on a lesser count of third degree witness tampering. The charges involve two separate witnesses.
James Reagan
James Reagan, of North Cape May, was indicted for theft, third degree, and issuing a bad check, fourth degree, two counts. The indictment alleges that Reagan twice issued checks from his own bank account knowing they would not be honored by the bank.
Denny Nelson
Denny Nelson is alleged to have sold services for business or home improvements without registering as a contractor. He was charged with violation of the Contractor Registration Act, a fourth degree offense.
Justin McCausland
Justin McCausland, 24, of Erma, was indicted for possession of a CDS, heroin. The incident occurred in Wildwood on Aug. 31.
Christopher Keever
Christopher Keever, 33, of Seaville, was indicted for a Woodbine theft, third degree, along with third degree fencing stolen property. This incident occurred in May. Subsequently, Keever was arrested in Middle Township and charged with burglary and theft. No grand jury action has yet been taken on the alleged offenses in Middle Township.
Calvin Hayward, William Laffy
Two separate indictments charged Calvin Hayward, 30, of Court House, and William Laffy, 34, of attempting to defraud a drug test, third degree. Both alleged offenses occurred in October.
Jeannie Luker
Jeannie Luker, of Woodbine, was indicted for second degree retaliation against a witness along with third degree terroristic threats and fourth degree stalking. Luker allegedly threatened another woman and her young child through threats posted on Facebook. Police found the threats credible. Luker also allegedly “did harm” to the victim in retaliation for informing the police.
Ryan Kennedy
Ryan Kennedy, 24, of Dennis Township, was indicted for possession of a CDS, alprazolam, in Sea Isle City Aug. 23. The indictment is in the third degree.
Robert Kaiser
Robert Kaiser, 24, of Wildwood, was indicted for possession of a CDS, third degree, cocaine. The incident occurred in August in Wildwood.
Adam Watson
Adam Watson, 29, of Dias Creek, was indicted on three counts of third degree forgery and uttering a forged instrument. He also faces a count for third degree theft. Watson allegedly issued three unauthorized checks from a local business to himself. He then presented these checks at a local market and a check cashing service.
Crystal Staffieri
Crystal Staffieri, 24, of Rio Grande, was indicted for possession of a CDS heroin, third degree. The indictment stems from an incident in Wildwood July 28.
Christine C. Shafer
Christine Shafer, of Wildwood, was indicted for third degree theft involving the appropriation of money from a condo association from April through July.
Joseph Sterling
Joseph Sterling, 27, of Glendale, Ariz., was indicted for eluding police and aggravated assault, each second degree, along with a fourth degree aggravated assault count. In July, in Lower Township near the Cape May Ferry complex, Sterling allegedly failed to stop when signaled to do so by police. The car he was driving was then reportedly seen in the Town Bank section of the township. When approached, Sterling allegedly tried to “run over” an officer.
Enough information about the car led police to conclude that it was a rental car due to be returned to the Philadelphia Airport the next morning. Sterling was arrested as the car was returned to the rental location.
John Styer
John Styer, 29, of Cape May, was indicted on two counts of third degree possession of a CDS, amphetamine and buprenorphine.
Frank Verna
Frank Verna, 38, of Erma, was indicted for third degree possession of a CDS, oxycodone. He was arrested in March in Upper Township.
William Crabill
William Crabill, 28, of Ocean View, allegedly made up a story of being assaulted and having a gun pointed at him in order to implicate certain individuals. The grand jury indicted Crabill on second degree false incrimination along with fourth degree false report to law enforcement.
Daniel Brunk
Daniel Brunk, 31, of Woodbine was indicted for third degree resisting arrest and aggravated assault. Brunk allegedly resisted arrest by a state trooper in Woodbine and “caused bodily injury” to the officer.
Jillian Elliott
Jillian Elliott, 33, of Woodbine, was indicted on two counts of third degree possession of a CDS, heroin and diazepam.
Terrance Green
Terrance Green, 43, of Lindenwold, was arrested in Wildwood in October in possession of a knife. Green had been convicted in 1995 of aggravated assault in Camden County and thus was prohibited from possessing a weapon. He was indicted for a fourth degree certain person offense.
Kimberly Gaorfal
Kimberly Gaorfal, 43, of Villas, was indicted for third degree theft involving stealing from a Middle Township business, during the period from May through June of 2015.
Cheryl Fitzgerald
Cheryl Fitzgerald, of Wildwood, was indicted for possession of a CDS, third degree, methamphetamine.
Mark Eckel, Brian Chase, James Matthews
Mark Eckel, 30, of Cape May, was indicted for second degree armed burglary along with second degree certain person charges for having a weapon after being convicted in 2013 for possession of a CDS. Brian Chase, 29, of Cold Spring was indicted along with Eckel on a related count of conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree. A third individual named in the indictment was James Matthews, 23, of Villas, allegedly engaged in fencing stolen property, third degree.
Kelly Belford
Kelly Belford was stopped in Dennis Township June 15, and arrested for DWI. She was also allegedly found to be in possession of heroin. She now faces an indictment for third degree possession of a CDS.
Peter Moody, Edward Valerio, Alexander Dellemonache
Peter Moody, Edward Valerio and Alexander Dellemonache were all indicted on two counts of third degree possession of a CDS. The drugs in question are amphetamine and methylphenidate. The arrests occurred in Sea Isle City Aug. 7.
The above individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
