COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 18 indictments July 26. The abbreviation for controlled dangerous substance used below is CDS.
Bridget M. Young
Bridget Young, 25, Wildwood has been lodged at the Cape May Correctional Center since June 3 on weapons charges. On June 11, she allegedly threw bodily fluids at a corrections officer. That action has brought her an added fourth-degree indictment.
William W. Shoffler
William Shoffler was indicted for terroristic threats, third degree. He allegedly threatened to use a gun “during a physical altercation.” Shoffler was indicted in 2015 on weapons charges related to unlawful possession of guns.
Paul A. Scipione Jr.
Paul Scipione Jr., 30, of Wildwood Crest, allegedly entered a property on West Banks Avenue in Wildwood taking over $500 worth of movable property. Scipione had been convicted of burglary in 2009. That conviction meant that he was not allowed to carry a weapon.
Scipione was indicted this week for burglary and theft, third degree, and for a certain person not to have a weapon, fourth degree.
Joseph P. Moncrief
Joseph Moncrief, 28, of Villas, faces a first-degree attempted murder indictment, along with second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree counts for endangering an injured victim and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
The indictment alleges that Moncrief tried to kill a male victim with a rock and left the scene after inflicting serious injuries.
Michael P. Martin
Michael Martin was indicted for fraudulent use of a credit card and theft, both third degree, and unlawful theft or receipt of a credit card, fourth-degree. According to the indictment, Martin fraudulently used credit cards taken from customers of an Ocean City Boardwalk restaurant. The total of his alleged illegal charges amounted to more than the $500 threshold needed for a third-degree count.
Johnanthan T. Kurtz
Johnanthan Kurtz, 21, of Cape May Point, was indicted for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, each third degree, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
The indictment alleges that Kurtz used a metal level tool to assault a male victim May 27 in Lower Township.
Daniel W. Archibald
Daniel Archibald, 28, was indicted for unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree. A second-degree conviction can warrant a five to 10-year prison term.
The indictment says that Archibald was found in possession of a Berretta CX4 Storm 9mm handgun for which he had no permit. The incident occurred in Sea Isle City Sept. 28.
Clarice Bethel
Clarice Bethel, 26, of Atlantic City, was indicted for third-degree conspiracy and shoplifting, along with fourth-degree hindering apprehension. Bethel was previously one of three individuals indicted in August 2015, for shoplifting from a Middle Township chain drug store. It was unclear why this new indictment for that same incident was handed up by the grand jury.
Barbara Helvitson
On June 24, Barbara Helvitson, 30, allegedly failed to return to official detention following a temporary release. She was indicted this week for third-degree escape.
Ivy Dan
Ivy Dan, 43, of Tuckahoe, was engaged with police concerning a follow-up investigation in “an unrelated case” in which she was charged with filing a false police report. According to a police report, she became unruly and threatened to use force to prevent her arrest. She was indicted for third-degree resisting arrest.
Kenneth Lopez-Attles
Kenneth Lopez-Attles was indicted for possession of heroin, possession with intent and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, each third degree. He also faces a count of possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of public property which is a second-degree offense.
Richard Garrison, Troy Garrison
Richard Garrison, 24, of Court House and Troy Garrison, 49, of Rio Grande were indicted for possession of heroin and dibutylone along with possession with intent to distribute heroin, each third-degree crimes. The incident occurred in Wildwood on May 10.

In unrelated indictments, Christopher Hartman, 33, Ocean City, Jake Gould, 25, North Cape May, Matthew Flood, 37, Ocean City, Jeremy Curry, 34, Cape May, Colleen Cubernot, 49, Wildwood, Carton Cromartie, 19, Wildwood, Carmen Colon-Cruz, 35, Wildwood, Carlos Casanova-Rosario, 31, Wildwood, and Christopher Kote, 25, Ocean View were each indicted for possession of a CDS, third degree.
The above individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
