SEA ISLE CITY — Police here arrested a fugitive from justice after stopping a motor vehicle on Ocean Drive at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17.
A motorist waived down Patrolman William Bradshaw and stated that a restaurant in Strathmere had just been robbed.
The motorist gave Bradshaw a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which he pulled over shortly thereafter.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that no robbery had taken place, but the subject, an employee at the restaurant, was a fugitive from justice.
Herman Gear, 45, of Bridgeton, was arrested and transported back to South Woods State Prison.
According to the state Department of Corrections, before he was returned on Aug. 17, Gear was in custody from May 18, 2006 until Aug. 14 this year on theft and burglary charges.
