By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE– Former Middle Township Police Officer Walter Krych was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls under the age of 13 on Friday, Feb 6.
Krych plead guilty to the second-degree offenses before Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Krych must be registers as a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, is subject to community supervision after his release from prison and must avoid contact with the victims.
The girls were 9 or 10 years old, and friends of Krych’s daughter, when the sexual assaults took place during a sleepover in 2001 and 2002. Both girls are now teenagers.
One victim had come forward, leading to an investigation and his arrest Jan. 25. News of that arrest prompted another victim to contact police several days later. Krych, who was out on bail, was arrested again Jan. 28.
Krych, 54, served as a Middle Township police officer for 14 years. The Police Department suspended him without pay after the first arrest on Jan. 25 and his was indicted by a grand jury in May.
Krych is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force from 1974 to 1978.
Krych will be ineligible for parole for 85 percent of the term.
