Crest Police Arrest Fugitive After Assault Report

WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest police officers were dispatched to a Pacific Avenue residence for a reported assault March 19 at 6:47 p.m.
According to a release, when officers arrived, they were met by the victim who stated she was assaulted by Fernando Marrero, 29, of Wildwood. 
Marrero had fled before officers’ arrival. 
K-9 officers from the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist in locating Marrero. 
Officers Shane Moyer and Cpl. William Gianakopoulos encountered the suspect and a brief foot pursuit ensued, at which time Marrero was apprehended by the officers. 
Marrero was charged with aggravated assault (by strangulation) and eluding substantial risk of physical injury. 
Marrero was additionally charged with being a fugitive from justice after a warrant was located out of Philadelphia. 
Marrero was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center.
The above was received from a law enforcement agency. The person named is innocent unless proven otherwise.
