By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township police reported that Ryan L. Conroy, who fled into the woods after a June 17 DWI traffic stop by a patrolman about 12:30 a.m. on High’s Beach Road off Route 47, voluntarily turned himself into police “early this morning“ accompanied by his attorney and a family member.
Conroy was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of resisting arrest and a count of attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.
Conroy was processed and remanded to county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge Peter Tourison.
According to Middle Township police, the incident began at 12:31 a.m. Patrolman John Norton conducted a motor vehicle stop for a suspected driving while intoxicated offense.
After he determined that the driver, Ryan L. Conroy, 20, of High’s Beach Road, was allegedly intoxicated, Norton attempted to place him under arrest.
At that time, Conroy resisted arrest and started to fight to Norton and Patrolman James Dalonzo. During the scuffle, Conroy attempted to disarm Dalonzo by removing his service weapon.
Conroy then fled into a wooded area, which runs between High’s Beach Road and Pierce’s Point Road.
An extensive search was conducted, which, as of 9 a.m. had negative results, according to police.
Criminal charges were filed against Conroy for aggravated assault, resisting arrest and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.
Conroy was arrested April 3, 2005 and charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of Bradley Brown, which took place at Conroy’s home on High’s Beach Road.
Conroy spent two and a half years in prison for that crime.
