Car Stop Leads Cops to 670 Bags of Heroin

This report is based on information received from the Prosecutor’s Office. The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance. 

ERMA – Haneef A. Molley, 30, of Erma, was arrested for distribution of heroin and cocaine Aug. 17. 

The arrest was the conclusion of a cooperative investigation between the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Wildwood Police Department Street Crimes Unit, Lower Township Police Department Detective Division, and the North Wildwood Police Department, according to a release. 

Molley was stopped by the North Wildwood Patrol Division while operating a 2008 gold Cadillac in North Wildwood Aug. 17. At the time of the motor vehicle stop, Phillip C. Atkinson, 38, of Wildwood, and Elizabeth A. Vega, 24, of North Cape May, were passengers in the vehicle.

Subsequent to the motor vehicle stop, court authorized search warrants were executed on the 2008 Cadillac and Molley’s residence in the 400 block Breakwater Road in Erma.

A search of the vehicle and the residence yielded the seizure of approximately two ounces of suspected cocaine and 670 bags of suspected heroin. Cash in the amount of $6,772 was also seized and will be submitted for forfeiture as being proceeds from the distribution of illegal narcotics.

These search warrants were the result of a multi jurisdictional investigation where it was learned that Molley was distributing heroin and cocaine throughout Cape May County.

Molley was charged with two counts of possession of CDS (heroin), third degree, possession with the intent to distribute CDS (heroin), third degree, two counts of possession of CDS (cocaine), third degree, two counts of possession with the intent to distribute CDS (cocaine), third degree, possession with the intent to distribute CDS (cocaine), second degree, and possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, third degree.

Molley was subsequently lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

Both Atkinson and Vega were charged with possession of CDS (heroin), third degree, possession with the intent to distribute CDS (heroin), third degree, possession of CDS (cocaine), third degree, possession with the intent to distribute CDS (cocaine), second degree, and possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, third degree.

Both were processed and released on a summons pending court proceedings.

Persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison and third degree crimes can carry a sentence of three to five years.

Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor stated that his office will continue to work hand in hand with the local municipalities along with state and federal agencies to target anyone associated with selling illegal CDS.

He continues to urge the citizens of Cape May County to report any information regarding illegal drug activity and/or any criminal activity within the community and that this information can be reported anonymously through the Cape May County Sheriff’s Tip Line at cmcsheriff.net and click on anonymous tip, or through the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-465-2800 or 877-465-2801, and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
